Aston Martin was founded with the
name of Bamford & Martin Ltd in 1913 by Robert Bamford and the pilot Lionel
Martin, winner in 1913 of the famous mountain race Aston-Clinton. In 1914 it
was renamed Aston Martin. He had an outstanding participation in numerous major
tourism competitions. Historically, its most important rivals are the Italian
firms Ferrari and Maserati and, recently, the German brand Porsche. Bringing a
differentiated English style, Aston Martin acquired worldwide fame by providing
cars for the James Bond movies, agent 007. At Casino Royale in 2006 and at
Quantum of Solace in 2008 and at Specter 2015 actor Daniel Craig uses a silver
DBS and an Aston Martin DB10 prototype. In 2005 the brand returned to sports
competitions successfully achieving a third place in the GT category of the 24
Hours of Le Mans with its DBR9 model. Aston Martin won that legendary event for
the last time in 1959.
For most of its history, Aston
Martin has manufactured automobiles in a small-scale, artisanal way; between
1957 and 2000 the total production of the brand did not reach twelve thousand
units. These volumes have increased in recent years. In 2003, Aston Martin
produced 1,476 automobiles and in 2004 it made a notable jump to 2,400 units
sold approaching the goal set by the Premier Automotive Group - when it was its
owner - of five thousand cars per year for 2006. The factory, opened in 2004 in
Gaydon, England, has that production capacity. The sales of the last fiscal
year allowed the British brand to announce its first year with earnings since
1962 ending with the incredible record of more than 40 years with balances in
red. In 2007 Aston Martin manufactured 7,250 automobiles, an increase of 6.7%
compared to 2006.
The Aston Martin Certificate of
Conformity is available to all Aston Martin built by the European market.

The DB5 is the most famous Aston
Martin car, due to its use by James Bond in Goldfinger (1964). Although Ian
Fleming had placed Bond in a DB Mark III in the novel, the DB5 was the company's
newest model when the film was being made. The car used in the film was the
original DB5 prototype, with another standard car used for acrobatics. James
Bond drives other models than Aston Martin. At Casino Royale, Agent Bond drives
a DBS equipped with state-of-the-art technology, then at Quantum of Solace he
drives another DBS at full speed through the streets of Italy while fleeing a
chase. The same model appears in Skyfall, where 007 travels with M to Skyfall.
