Dodge
Dodge is an American automobile
brand, originally called the Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company from 1914 to
1927. Chrysler acquired the Dodge company in 1928 from which it remains part of
the FCA US LLC.
In 1901, John Francis Dodge and
Horace Elgin Dodge moved their Brothers Bicycle & Machine Factory to
Detroit (Michigan, United States) from Windsor (Ontario, Canada), where they
built auto parts. Their bearings and other parts were in demand with the early
automotive industry and they helped in the design of engine parts for the first
Oldsmobile cars.
Our company offers the Dodge
compliance certificate for this vehicle through our website.
In 1902, the Dodge Brothers
joined Henry Ford, who was seeking help to finance his own car company. They
helped start the Ford Motor Company as well as manufacturing parts for the
first Ford, achieving mutual benefit for both Ford and the Dodge Brothers.
Already in 1913, almost all Ford parts such as chassis, suspension, brakes,
engines, transmissions, etc. They were built by Dodge.
After Chrysler took possession of
the English group Rootes, the Simca of France, Barreiros in Spain, and the
resulting establishment of Chrysler in Europe in the late 1960s, the Dodge
brand was used in light commercial vehicles, most of them in the initially
called Commer or Karrier (subsidiaries of Rootes), in the version of the Simca
1100, in the Spanish Dodge Dart, and in heavy vehicles built in Spain. The best
known were the Dodge 50 series, widely used by public service and military
companies, but rarely considered outside the United Kingdom, and heavy Spanish
constructions of the 300 series available such as 4x2, 6x4, 8x2, and 8x4, as
well as like the semi-trailer trucks. All of them were also sold in export
markets such as Fargo or De Soto.
In 1977 Chrysler Europe
collapsed, and the sale of its assets to the Peugeot factories, the English and
Spanish Dodges, where they quickly passed to the Renault Vehicle Industry,
which gradually re-qualified Renault the range of vans and trucks in the 80s ,
falling the usual production altogether and using the facilities to produce the
engines in the United Kingdom and some models of Spanish Renault trucks. Dodge
would not return to the United Kingdom until the introduction of the Dodge Neon
SRT-4, called Chrysler Neon, in the middle of the 2000. It followed with the
appearance of the Caliber and began to sell more models like the Dodge Nitro or
the Avenger.
However, since the takeover of
Fiat S.p.A. about Chrysler Group LLC, the Dodge brand leaves the European
market, and since 2011 some of its cars have been commercialized under the Fiat
brand. The first model of this new commercial strategy is the Fiat Freemont,
brother of the Dodge Journey, both assembled in Mexico, with a slight redesign
adapted to the European market.
The Dodge Certificate of
Conformity is available for all Dodges built by the European market.
Dodge was a part of
DaimlerChrysler AG, based in Stuttgart (Germany). Since 2005, the Dodge brand
has been known above all for its SUVs, which make up 78% of the sales of the
division. Dodge tries to change this with the introduction of the new Dodge
Charger and the Dodge Challenger. The Dodge brand was reintroduced in Europe in
2006. Currently the Dodge Viper SRT-10 (sold as Dodge SRT-10 in the UK), Dodge
Ram, and The Dodge Caliber are the only Dodge vehicles in that market. The
Dodge Nitro and Dodge Avenger began selling in mid-2007.
Dodge recently re-entered the
Australian market in 2006 after an absence of 30 years. Dodge Australia plans
to launch a new model every six months in the next three years, plans to
capture interest in the brand. The first of these models is the Dodge Caliber,
which was well received at the Melbourne Motor Show in 2006. Dodge vehicles are
now available in many countries around the world. In 2006, Dodge sold more than
1.3 million vehicles in the global market. In the spring of 2007,
DaimlerChrysler reached an agreement with Cerberus Capital Management L.P. for
the sale of the subsidiary Chrysler Group, of which the Dodge division is a
part.
