Ford introduced methods for the
large-scale manufacture of cars and the large-scale management of an industrial
workforce using engineered fabrication sequences typified by moving assembly
lines. In 1914, these methods were known throughout the world as Fordism.
Former British subsidiaries
of Ford: Jaguar and Land Rover, acquired in 1989 and 2000, respectively, were
sold to Tata Motors in March 2008. Ford was the owner of the Swedish automaker
Volvo from 1999 to 2010. In 2011, Ford suspended the Mercury brand, under which
it had marketed entry-level luxury cars in the United States, Canada, Mexico,
and the Middle East since 1938. During the financial crisis at the beginning of
the 21st century, it was close to bankruptcy, but since then it has become
profitable again.

Ford, was founded on June 16,
1903 with $ 28,000 contributed by eleven investors, which included the partner
who gave his name to the company, Henry Ford, who at that time was 40 years
old. In its early years, Ford produced a few cars per day at its factory on
Mack Avenue in Detroit, Michigan.
The Ford family has maintained
control of the company for almost 100 years. Ford was one of the companies that
managed to survive the Great Depression of the 1930s. By 1913, the company had
developed all the basic techniques of mass production and production line. Ford
created the first mobile production line in the world that year, which reduced
the assembly time of the chassis from 12 and a half hours to 100 minutes.
